You’re Not Too Insignificant to Serve!
Pastor Johnathan began a new series on serving, reminding the congregation that they are called to serve under the banner of Jehovah Nissi, referencing the story in Exodus 17:15 where Moses held up his arms in battle with help from others. He shared personal stories from his sabbatical at the beach, where he repeatedly helped people stuck in sand, illustrating how God provides daily opportunities to serve others. The pastor emphasized that serving is not optional but a command, citing Matthew 20:28: "For even the Son of man came not to be served, but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many."
Pastor Johnathan explained that serving accomplishes three things: it shows God's character (as Jesus demonstrated when washing the disciples' feet in John 13), shares God's goodness by making people feel valued and seen, and spreads the gospel by opening doors of opportunity. He shared a powerful story from a mission trip to Latvia, where even a Russian mob leader recognized their good work of feeding the homeless. The pastor acknowledged that serving faces opposition, using Nehemiah 4 as an example, but encouraged the congregation that success breeds opposition and believers must persevere through prayer and dedication to God's calling.
