The Harvest Is Now: Why It's Time to Plant One Seed for Jesus
Have you ever invested hours into a TV series, only to reach the finale and feel completely let down? You gave it everything — your time, your emotions, your late nights — and the ending just fell flat. That feeling of disappointment is real. But here's what I want you to know today: when it comes to God's story, there is no letdown at the end.
From Genesis to Revelation — One Consistent Thread
We've been studying through the book of Psalms, and what I love about God's Word is its consistency. From Genesis to Revelation, there is a common thread and a common theme — and that theme is all about Jesus. It's all about redemption, reconciliation, and the blood covering of us so that we can walk with Him and be with Him for eternity.
Jesus himself confirmed this after his resurrection. In Luke 24:27, as he walked with two disciples on the road to Emmaus, "Jesus took them through the writings of Moses and all the prophets, explaining from all the Scriptures the things concerning himself." And then in Luke 24:44, he said, "When I was with you before, I told you that everything written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and in the Psalms must be fulfilled."
The Bible is so good, so strong, and so consistent about who it's talking about — the character of Jehovah, the salvation and redemption of Jesus, the empowerment of the Holy Spirit.
A Major Spiritual Shift Is Happening Right Now
I believe that there is a major spiritual shift happening in our world today. And we can either be a part of the shift or be left out. I want to be a part of what God is doing.
Here's something that might surprise you. According to a 2025 article by the Barna Group, 66% of all US adults say they have made a personal commitment to Jesus that is still important in their life today. That Marks a 12-point percentage increase since 2021, when commitment levels reached their lowest in more than three decades of Barna tracking. And among the biggest drivers of this Jesus resurgence? Younger generations — particularly Gen Z and millennials. Among Gen Z men, commitment to Jesus jumped 15 percentage points between 2019 and 2025. Millennial men saw a similar spike of 19 percentage points.
Come on, Jesus.
The Church Can't Afford to Be Silent
So why does this matter? Because if we don't start talking about Jesus — if we're not being bold about Jesus — we are going to find ourselves bowing to the culture of man rather than bowing before Jesus. And that is going to be on us.
The church has been silent for way too long. And not only has the church been too silent, we have been too divisive. Instead of just telling people about Jesus, we get caught up in denominations and church styles. Maybe if we just talk to them about Jesus and let Him sort all the rest of that out, something can happen.
Here's the reality: if we refuse to be bold for Jesus, then we are letting our neighbor, our friend, our co-worker choose hell. And I don't want to stand before God knowing He gave me an opportunity and I missed it.
As Matthew 9:37 says, Jesus told his disciples, "The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest. Ask him to send more workers into his field." And Mark 4:29 reminds us, "As soon as the grain is ready, the farmer comes and harvests it with a sickle, for the harvest time has come."
Ladies and gentlemen, the harvest time is now.
Think About Jesus — A Movement Spreading Across 35 Countries
Psalm 118:26 says, "Bless the one who comes in the name of the Lord." Our goal is not just to sit in the house of the Lord, but to go outside these walls and let people know how great Jesus is and how much He wants to be involved in their life.
That's exactly what the Think About Jesus movement is doing. Started in Hungary by our missions director Lydia Santa, this movement has grown from one country to at least 35 countries — including Ukraine, Namibia, Romania, Russia, Argentina, Kenya, Rwanda, and Zimbabwe — where believers are going out into the streets to ask one simple question: What do you think about Jesus?
Even in Siberia, where it's too cold for t-shirts, believers made flags and went out on the streets giving away free Bibles. In Nicaragua, where Christians can face two months in prison for carrying a Bible, believers are still going out boldly, saying, "We don't care. We're going to present the gospel."
As Lydia shared with us, the approach is simple: "Come and see who Jesus is." Just like the Samaritan woman in the Gospel of John — a woman who met Jesus at a well, became convinced He was the Messiah, and immediately ran into town telling people — you don't have to have all the answers. You just have to be willing to say, come and see.
It Starts With One Seed
Maybe you're thinking, I can't do all of this. I get it. But here's the thing — it starts with one seed.
In John 4:34-36, after speaking with the Samaritan woman, Jesus told his disciples, "My nourishment comes from doing the will of God who sent me and from finishing his work. You know the saying, four months between planting and harvest. But I say, wake up and look around. The fields are already ripe for harvest... What joy awaits both the planter and the harvester alike."
Maybe you're the one who plants a seed by asking someone, "What are your thoughts on Jesus?" Six months later, someone else asks them another question that brings them to faith. But you planted that one seed. Well done.
As Charles Spurgeon said, "To win a soul is a more glorious achievement than to be crowned in the arena of theological controversy."
And D.L. Moody put it this way: "Evangelism is not a professional job for a few trained men. It is instead the unrelenting responsibility of every person who belongs to the company of Jesus."
Putting It Into Practice
So what does this look like in your everyday life? Here are a few ways to start:
Plant one seed this week. Ask a co-worker, a neighbor, or even your waitress, "What do you think about Jesus?" When you put it in question form, people's defenses don't go up.
Pray for open doors. Colossians 4:2 says, "Be persistent and devoted to prayer, being alert and focused in your prayer life with an attitude of thanksgiving... pray that God will open a door of opportunity to proclaim the mystery of Christ."
Join a team. You don't have to do this alone. Get connected with others who are going out into the community to share the love of Jesus.
Get equipped. If you want to go deeper, look for classes in your church that will help you share your faith with confidence — and remember, it's always okay to say, "I don't know the answer to that, but I know what Jesus has done for me."
Love people well. We have to plant seeds with grace and water them with love. What if that one waitress having a horrible day just needs someone to tell her that Jesus loves her?
We want to change the nation? Tell people. Plant the one seed. Because when you're bold one time, you'll be bold another time. It just starts with one moment.
The harvest time has come. Let's go.
